Antenatal Care
Our antenatal care team will schedule regular check-ups with you to help ensure you and your baby are healthy throughout your pregnancy. We also offer urine pregnancy tests as well as blood tests for patients who suspect they may be pregnant and would like confirmation.
During your antenatal visit, we may conduct various tests to assess the health and progress of you and your baby. These include testing your urine, blood haemoglobin and platelet levels, as well as blood pressure, immunity against infections, and more. Our antenatal team will examine your cervix and pelvis region, as well as the baby’s development progress (heartbeat and movements).
These appointments will give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about your pregnancy with your doctor.
Implanon Insertion & Removal
The practitioners at Deception Bay Doctors can perform Implanon insertions and removals. Many women find that contraceptive implants are a suitable and effective long-term birth control option.
A contraceptive implant is a matchstick-sized, flexible plastic rod that we insert underneath the skin of the upper arm. Once inserted, it releases a low dose of a pregestational hormone, which thickens cervical mucus, thin the uterus’ lining, and prevents ovulation.
Benefits of the contraceptive implant option for birth control:
- It is effective for a period of up to three years
- It contains no estrogen
- It can be removed at any time
- It eliminates the need to interrupt sex for contraception
If you are considering the Implanon implant as a form of birth control, please speak to your GP to discuss the potential side effects and whether a backup contraception method is necessary following insertion.
